The Death of Hope (Star Wars: Jedi Apprentice 15)
by Jude Watson
What used to be "Jedi Master Qui-Gon's been kidnapped. We have to find him!" has turned, in this book, to "Jedi Master Tahl has been kidnapped. We have to find her!" I did really like Tahl... before Qui-Gon suddenly fell in love with her. I was pretty sure she was going to die, regardless, and I felt bad that I didn't really mind that. I like her, I just don't like what she's suddenly brought out in Qui-Gon in these recent books. Which is sad, because I love her role earlier, and how she was the one who helped convince Qui-Gon he should take Obi-Wan as his apprentice a second time. So my favorite part of this book was defiitely the flashbacks. It was great seeing a younger Qui-Gon (getting younger with each flashback) interacting with Tahl as equals and as friends. I love these little glimpses of his past. And I liked the moments where Qui-Gon was taken out of the hunt in order to attend to other business like the political situation (saving lives) and his padawan's health.
