melydia let me borrow this book.
This is the continuing adventures of Jessica, Jonathan, Melissa, Dess, and Rex (he's my favorite) as the five teens are the only people awake and alert during the secret hour after midnight every night in their town of Bixby, Ohio. Or... so they thought. In this book, sh*t gets real for the gang. Tensions rise. Secrets and hinted at, kept from each other, and then revealed at the worst of times. Also, everything they know gets turned upside-down. Poor kids. I really felt for them here.
I definitely didn't like this one as much as the first book, which I literally couldn't put down. This one had some great new wrinkles, but it started getting a bit complex for me at times. I don't know if it was the fact that I started and stopped reading so many times or because everything new thrown at the kids was so new to them as well (and therefore hard for them to understand at first too), but I had to go back and re-read a few parts to fully comprehend the ramifications of what was happening when there were big twists.
Luckily, there was nothing that totally confused or stumped me. And by the big climax, it definitely had me on the edge of my seat. I definitely enjoyed the story enough to want to read the third book in the trilogy. I hope everything works out for the kids in the end!
I'll be giving this book back to melydia the next time I see her.
