Surprising My Future Self!
Feb. 13th, 2014 02:34 pmThere are a lot of books that I've really been looking forward to reading that, for some reason or another, have been sitting on Mt. TBR for years now. I feel guilty about them, but something always comes up--a book club, reading challenge, themed read, bookring, etc. and they never make it onto my bedside table or into my purse to be read.
On Pinterest, I saw a holiday craft idea where a parent wrapped up a bunch of picture books and her child opened one a day as part of an advent calendar. Here's my pin about it on my Ideas & Inspirations board.
It was a great idea, but I can't read a book a day, even in December when I have some time off from work. So I decided to change the idea a little to fit me. I wrapped up a bunch of books that I've been wanting to read. In a year or so, I will choose one to open and read it, then move on to the next. Thanks to my terrible, horrible, no good, very bad memory, I'll probably forget half of them over time and I'm sure I'll forget which is which. I tried to get a variety of shapes and sizes, though some are very similar. So there's no way I'll be sure exactly of what book I'm unwrapping. It will be a surprise and a gift to myself to have a fantastic book that I really want to read!

Here are all the books, wrapped and waiting to be read.

Books in a box, where they'll sit until I've forgotten what they are.
I was thinking of reading one a month and only wrapping 12, but I'm not a fast reader and some of these books are shorter than others. So I'm just going to read at whatever pace I need to and unwrap the next book as soon as I finish the one before it. I'm planning to start in January 2015, but that might be later, if I still remember which book is which, somehow. And then I'll wait until the books are a surprise to me. I hope this will be fun!
