Coffin: The Art of Vampire Hunter D
by Yoshitaka Amano
I took this out of the library for two reasons: 1- I own a Vampire Hunter D DVD and watched it years ago; it's really unique and beautiful art and 2- it was too large for the shelves at one library, so I took it out to return it to another library with room on the bottom shelves for large books.
I'm glad I gave this a read. It's a gorgeous collection of art from the various Vampire Hunter D mangas, each one labeled with the manga it came from (none of which I'd read). I liked the more beautiful, fantastical works of art, but there was also a good variety of stylized art that really brought out the aristocratic side of D. There are 200 pages of art and a few descriptions of the general story of D and a specific example of one adventure. I highly recommend this book for anyone who loves good art or likes the Vampire Hunter D manga. It really shows off a great selection of pieces.
