Hulk: Misunderstood Monster

This starts out with the Hulk's origin story. In it, Bruce gets hit by the radiation by accident during tests while he's trying to save a younger science assistant (Rick Jones) who gets himself in danger trying to save the monkey they're experimenting on. So, basically, it's all Rick's fault for being so soft-hearted. And at least Bruce gets hurt while doing something noble. But, from then on, he can transform into the Hulk... and both Rick and Monkey are fiercely loyal to him. The government... is less so, you might say. They seem to have a problem with a giant, strong, rageful monster.

In the second story, he has a run-in with Jamie Madrox, the Multiple Man. And, of course, this run-in starts out good but ends up with multiple Hulks on the loose. Whoops! Luckily, some of the more thoughtful dupes handle the situation well. In the next story, Dr. Lu (aka Radioactive Man) escapes and just by being around Bruce, is able to keep the Hulk in check. This seems like it would be a great solution to the problem, but the man's morals and loyalty are a bit too skewed. In the final story, everyone shows up and everything goes crazy. It's a fun story, though, and it ends up with some warm and fuzzy feels for Bruce/the Hulk. Awww.

Definitely a fun collection. I liked seeing what the author did with the characters.I don't read a lot of Hulk stories, but I'm glad I bought this volume from a used book sale.
