Just a Taste
by Deirdre Martin
I got completely hooked on Deirdre Martin's hockey romance series. So far, they are the only romance novels I've managed to read without feeling like my head was going to explode and without wanting to throw the book across the room. This book is one of the spin-offs, involving Anthony Dante (hockey player Michael Dante's brother). In it, Anthony meets a chef who's setting up a bistro near his restaurant. Though it's been a year since he lost his wife, he is slow to enter into a relationship with her. Luckily, there's enough fun tension and complications in their situations to keep the book going at a nice clip.
I really enjoyed seeing the characters from other books here, and especially loved that there's still some hockey here. Michael frequently drops in and his son, Little Ant, is playing hockey (though the kid would obviously much rather cook like his uncle does). I'm really glad I gave this spin-off a chance, because it was exactly what I've come to expect in her books. There's a little bit of romance and sex but it's mostly emotion, relationship, and actual plot. I loved jumping back into this world. And even though the only things I know about the restaurant business are what I learned from Gordon Ramsey reality shows and Iron Chef, I thoroughly enjoyed it!
