I really loved the movie, and I own almost this whole series, so I was eager to finally start reading the series!

What an unfortunate, miserable book. I don't understand why anyone would want to write such a depressing book about these sad little children. First they lose their parents and then they're sent to live with this horribly abusive man who claims to be their uncle. I thought from the beginning that he was just in it for the money! But to try to trick the young girl into marrying him... that's just cruel! I was pleased to see them removed from that situation eventually, though it had me on the edge of my seat for a while.

And I can only hope the second book is a much happier one.


;-) Really, I enjoyed this a lot. It was fun and a nice excuse to slip into my childlike mindset and be silly for a while. The characters are great and the book is enjoyable. I have heard that the series gets a little repetitive/boring as time goes on and I look forward to finding out if that is in fact true or not for me.
