Squirrel Seeks Chipmunk: A Modest Bestiary

I am not a fan of this book. Sedaris' fiction stories usually don't compare to his nonfiction, so I didn't go in with the highest of expectations. But many of these stories sickened me. I'm all for dark humor, but some of these were just dreadful and haunting, especially "The Motherless Bear," "The Parenting Storks," "The Crow and the Lamb," "The Cow and the Turkey," and "The Mouse and the Snake."
I've seen other illustrations by this artist, and the illustrations accompanying the stories are great. However, in some cases, they seem to finish the stories or spoil them, in some cases. Did the young stork in "The Parenting Storks" die? It seems to imply she did.
These are not the sorts of fables I grew up with. Sure, they may have morals, but it's not an especially fun road to get to each.
