Clockwork Angel
by Cassandra Clare
(Audio)
Now that I've read the Mortal Instruments, I decided to re-read (or, rather, re-earread) Clockwork Angel. Mostly, because I realized during Cassandra Clare's book signing that Magnus Bane was in Clockwork Angel and I couldn't remember him AT ALL! Will and Jem, definitely. The basic plot, with its twists, definitely. But Magnus? Really? Reading it after Moral Instruments was a wonderful treat--sooooo many links to things I picked up on this time around!
I maintain that it can be read first and on its own. But now that I'm sort of a fan of the shadowhunter world, I'm glad I read this book again to catch all the references to things and people I'm now familiar with. It was a pleasure to read it this time, knowing what I was getting into and wanting to devour it just for specifics I hadn't known to look for the first time around.
But general impressions of the book from the first time around hold, especially when it comes to the characters and what I was hoping for. Which is probably why it inspired me to start writing the particular YA fic I'm now writing. And, actually, I feel re-inspired!
