Wild Space (Star Wars: The Clone Wars)
by Karen Miller

I spotted this book while I was volunteering at the library one day and plucked it from the shelves. The dedication at the beginning mentioned thanking Ewan McGregor for his portrayal of Obi-Wan Kenobi, and I knew this was a book I had to read *G*

It took me a while to get through this book--not through any fault of the book, really, but due to two factors: 1-my first online fandom for which I religiously read fanfic was Star Wars Prequels, so I was used to shorter bursts of Jedi goodness and used to slash as well LOL and 2-I read it just once a week while waiting in my allergist's office after getting shots.

Despite my ingesting it in small portions over a period of several months, I found it enjoyable. I really loved the abundance of hurt/comfort, especially when Obi-Wan is badly injured and Anakin has to confront his feelings about that. I felt like several themes were done again and again, addressing them in different contexts. But the author did a great job of dancing around the strange situation Ani presents us with--a Jedi who loves too much in a role where attachments that form from love are forbidden.

Like the television show, you see a lot of Ani leading the charge into battle. And you get some interesting perspectives you don't get to explore in the movies. This book had Padma and Obi telling Bail about the Sith--and his reaction was perfect, as was the heated discussion about how private that needed to stay, despite the fact that it's kind of important info to everyone in the galaxy. I especially loved the Bail and Obi-Wan show by the end. You see their dependence upon each other and the way they work together. Makes the end of Revenge of the Sith (where each one takes a twin) much more powerful.

This wasn't what I usually read when it comes to prequel Star Wars stories, but it was a very enjoyable experience. And I think I've seen other books by her... I might have to investigate those.
