Charmed: Shadow of the Sphinx
by Constance M. Burge
So, they've done Ancient Egypt on the Charmed TV show as well, but this book didn't suffer from the problem the one Charmed tie-in about Ancient Greek myths did. This one actually succeeds in melding just a tiny bit of the magic and traditions of that culture into the Charmed universe, mostly because the Egyptian culture was only a small part of one or two episodes, not a huge, story-changing element like the Greek myths were.
In an attempt to distinguish herself (and not be compared to Prue all the time) Paige turns herself into a cat (one will note that Prue turned into a DOG in one episode, but that's beside the point). Problem is, she doesn't know how to turn back. Typical young witch!Paige. Worse yet, her sisters take her to the animal shelter and give her away.
She gets adopted by a guy who is deep into Ancient Egypt god-worshipping and, in a ceremony, she gets sent back in time with him TO Ancient Egypt! She ends up being able to communicate with the guy, who has a bit of magic in him. And eventually her sisters help rescue her... but not before accidentally unleashing an evil woman who had been turned into a cat as punishment. Oops!
In true Charmed fashion, the sisters fix all by the end (even though I still don't understand these time travel to the past stories where they can use their powers). And Paige learns an important lesson about reading spells all the way through before performing them!
A quick but fun read for Charmed fans.
