The Dangerous Rescue (Star Wars: Jedi Apprentice 13)
by Jude Watson

Qui-Gon finally manages to escape the clutches of an evil scientist and teams up with the group to track her down. With two Jedi masters, two Jedi padawans, one vengeful daughter, and three rather useless thieves, you'd think they'd make quick progress. However, it's not as easy as it could be. First off, the bounty hunter from two books ago is pissed off at Obi-Wan and keeps trying to lure him into traps to off him. Second, Qui-Gon is drained and exhausted (even his padawan notices!) and can't connect to the Force. Third, there's a whole planet that's dying because the scientist has poisoned the water supply there with bacteria that can't be stopped.

I really liked the concern Obi shows for his master. And I love how he's able to use what he's learned from Qui in the heat of battle--knowing when to run, when to fight, when to have patience, when to have a plan. There are still some unresolved issues, so I expect this storyline to last another book at least. But I definitely felt better with Qui-Gon out of the evil scientist's hands and back with his padawan at last.
