Blue Bloods: the graphic novel
by Melissa de la Cruz, Robert Venditti, others

I haven't read the actual series by Melissa de la Cruz, though I knew it involved vampires. I keep being drawn to this graphic novel (I love the cover image and art style) so I decided to give it a whirl.

What an interesting twist on teenage vampires. The graphic novel did a good job of introducing me to the characters and explaining the concept to me. However, I felt like the story was very rushed and the bits of explanation came too heavy-handedly, like they were trying hard to fit all the essentials in before the story ended. I really liked the Croatoan element and twist though. And I loved the main characters (especially Schuyler Van Alen and Oliver and, yeah, Jack); I want to get to know them better now that I've got great visuals of them.

I really enjoyed the concept and it makes me want to pick up the books and dive into the series now. There are lots of fascinating characters with potential and others with ambiguous morality/motives. Plus, so much memory means interesting, drama-filled backstory and heavy emotions--what could be better in a YA series? The graphic novel did a great job of getting me hooked and making me want to try out the actual novels.
