My library included a link to this list in its recent newsletter and I kind of adore it... except that now I want to read ALL THESE BOOKS! The list has 22 famous children's books and books you should read now as an adult that are similar in some way (theme, style, genre, etc.) to the children's book. There are some really interesting suggestions/pairings here. For example, if you liked The Giver, you should read Never Let Me Go by Kazuo Ishiguro (because dystopias). Or if you liked the Redwall series, you should read the Song of Ice and Fire series (because swords!).

I don't know anything about The Elegance of the Hedgehog, but I suspect the book was chosen in part because of the similarity in its cover to Harriet the Spy's cover. heehee It was kind of neat to see so many that are already on my Mt. TBR show up on this list.

Similarly, John Green has a nice book recommendation vid... and I want to read all of these I haven't read yet as well: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y4UT9iBdQDI

I read the buzzfeed article and some of those seem a bit random to me!

Have you read many of the "now" books? I've only read a couple, so I don't know how off some of the recs might be. But they still look really good (and there are some that are already on my list of books to track down, heehee)

That's a fair comment. I've read both The Giver and Never Let Me Go, attempted to read Catch 22, and have read Stardust. It seemed like more when I was first looking at it!

I'm not sure I'd recommend Game of Thrones to someone who loved Redwall. They're really not that similar. But then, I didn't really like Game of Thrones.

Likewise with Wayside School and Catch-22. I liked both, but I don't remember Wayside School being quite so cynical. I liked both, though.

I liked Ender's Game but wasn't so fond of Neuromancer, so I don't think that's a very good recommendation. I'd sooner go with something like Neal Stephenson, like Snow Crash maybe.

I can actually see a kind of connection between Phantom Tollbooth and Stardust, though honestly I think Neverwhere is a closer fit in terms of atmosphere. (I liked both, btw.)

I haven't read both books of any of the other pairs, though, so I can't comment.
