The House that Drac Built
by Judy Sierra
I read this one during my volunteer shift at the library. It's a cumulitive story where each line builds on the ones before and repeats those. You know, like there was an old lady that swallowed a fly. Only this one was all about the spooky house that Drac (not Jack!) built. And it had a great rhyme scheme in it as well. Lovely dark, haunting, but charming illustrations. Werewolves, bats, manticores, vampires, fiends, and more! Definitely not suitable for some younger children, but some children would like it and it was fun for this adult.
At the end of the story, some fearless trick-or-treating children show up and put the whole house right, including petting the cat and bandaging the hurt bat. Sweet and clever!
