Mr.Wolf's Pancakes
by Jam Fearnley
Read while I was at the library for my volunteer shift. This is the story of Mr. Wolf who really wants to make pancakes. Only he's not so good at reading the cookbook, so he asks for help from his neighbor, a chicken. The neighbor freaks out and slams the door in his face. So Mr.Wolf figures it out on his own. Then he's not so good at other things like counting or acquiring ingredients or carrying items. He goes around to his neighbors like the three little bigs and Little Red Riding hood, but they all freak out and refuse to help. So Mr.Wolf works super hard at it and does it all himself. At the end, he makes such excellent pancakes that all his neighbors come around and demand some. Should he give the nummy treats to his neighbors, even though they didn't do anything to help him? Or should he refuse and eat the pancakes all himself? I was practically begging the wolf to be selfish this time! But, being a children's book, I expected him to share. What did Mr. Wolf do? He knew just what to do! HE ATE ALL THE NEIGBORS! And then he ate and enjoyed the pancakes. Hahahahaha!
I did NOT see that coming. I was shocked and amused!
The book was such fun to read. And the art was top-notch, colorful and fun. My favorite was the image of Mr.Wolf at the store buying the ingredients. There were other products like Goldilocks' Oatmeal and Pease Porrige (best served hot or cold). Clever :-)
