Ultimate Comics Spider-Man Volume 4
by Bendis, Marquez, Pichelli

I spotted volume 3 of this series on the new shelves, but volume 4 was on the "old" shelves. Confusing. But I read them back-to-back. This collects issues #16.1 and #19-22. The back cover features the phrase: "a hero is defined by his enemies."

Things are getting real for Miles. After what his father was sort of forced into battle in the last volume, people are starting to take notice. People like former S.H.I.E.L.D. agent Maria Hill and, oh yeah, VENOM. Gee. Great. Especially when Venom thinks that Miles' father is Spider-Man and goes after him repeatedly, single-mindedly. Spider-Man has to protect his parents as well as the city while trying to not get figured out by anyone. Well, except for Peter Parker's friends. I LOVE seeing them still in the storyline. They've got such, er, good advice for Miles, based on what happened to Peter. But they also bring a nice consistency and continuation to the series. Plus, Gwen and Mary Jane are just awesome girls with attitude. I love them.

But I don't love Venom. He scares me. Especially when he starts killing everyone who gets between him and Spider-Man (or who he thinks is Spider-Man, despite the obviousness that Miles' father isn't Spider-Man). This one ends with a punch in the stomach.
