The 4400: The Vesuvius Prophecy
by Greg Cox

I saw this book on the "new" shelves at the library when I was shelving books and I grabbed it immediately. I love the show and hadn't realized anyone (let alone the master at this, Greg Cox) had written books about it yet. I believe this one is set between seasons (between 3 & 4 maybe?) so it doesn't really answer any questions regarding what happened after the huge finale. But these sorts of books don't tend to reveal canon story truths like that so much as take us on another adventure in that universe with those characters.

The story was simple but took a lot of fun twists and turns. On a school trip, Maia sees Mount Rainier errupt. It's up to my favorite NTAC agents to figure out who's beind it and to stop it before all of Seattle is destroyed! I especially loved the treatment of one of my favorite cities: Seattle. I've only visited once, but some of my favorite sights like the Underground Tour and Pike's Place market/stores were featured and so realistic. It was like being right back there again while being back in the 4400 universe. Fun! The characters, even Isabelle, were wonderfully in character and it was such a pleasure to see them again. And I loved the powers the characters were given- being able to control the earth and to astralproject (and what happens when he dies!).

The only problem I had with this book was D. B. Cooper. It was clever, don't get me wrong. If famous D. B. Cooper were abducted by the future that would explain SO well how he disappeared and what happened to his money. However... I had already ascribed to the Prison Break TV show theory about what happened to D. B. Cooper. So I didn't need The 4400 TV show to solve the mystery for me.
