Ultimate Spider-Man #6: Venom
by Brian Michael Bendis & others
In most of the Spider-Man universes I've seen or read, Venom is either Peter or Harry. This was an interesting twist, especially as it does start out as Peter. But the mystery of Peter's parents death is explored a little bit and Peter gets some unexpected advice from his dead father right when he needs it. Poor Peter is still struggling at being both a teenager and Spider-Man (hard to do when his costume is destroyed and MJ won't even talk to him). I love that he so quickly realizes that Venom is definitely not the solution to his problems, especially when he comes so close to killing a man. That was definitely a powerful moment; Peter is completely broken by it, and I love that he thinks to go to MJ for understanding. Awww.
It's hard to imagine things going worse for Peter, but at least this collection of issues ends on a happy note.
