Doctor Who: The Forgotten
by Tony Lee, Pia Guerra, and Nick Roche
This was amazing. In this story, the Doctor is trapped in a strange, museum-like place without understanding of how he got there or much memory of himself. His companion helps him to remember by forcing him to remember each of his incarnations in order. I got a chill when he got to the room displaying all the outfits of his previous incarnations.
I know the first doctor, the eighth, the ninth, and the tenth very well. But I don't know the others really at all because I'm rewatching the series from the beginning now. So those 4 parts were easily my favorites. But I look forward to watching the whole series and getting through it so I can understand more about all the companions and personalities of the doctor. Until then, this was sort of an educating experience as much as anything else for me! I loved how the two things that were consistent throughout was the doctor's desire to help and his need for a companion. As we see him and his various companions, we come to know his character much better. But we also get to enjoy all the little differences.
And the adventures themselves are exciting! I especially liked the one close call he has, almost meeting Captain Jack Harkness! :-) And the setup for the story is great. It's like 11 adventures in one! Seeing so many companions (especially when on the "random" setting LOL) was so much fun. And it was also quite touching to see his reaction to the ones he had lost, the ones he abandoned, the ones he still feels he let down. He's so lonely, but it's nice that even he is reminded that, through it all, there was one companion who was ALWAYS with him and never left him.
This story is full of fun and adventure. It's got some scary moments. It even had a twist or two I didn't see coming. But it also had many touching and sweet moments. It really had everything I've come to love about Doctor Who. Ten stars, easily. I loved this from cover to cover.
I read this during my day after Thanksgiving graphic novel read-a-thon.
