City of Glass

In the third Mortal Instruments book, we venture to the Shadowhunter's city, Idris. It's a beutiful place, a place apparently protected from downworlders and evil. But, as we all know, that's the perfect invitation to invite bad.
When everyone travels there without Clary (including Simon, by accident), Clary takes it upon herself to make a portal and go there herself. Luckily, Luke goes to keep her from being poisoned in the lake and we meet his sister! Simon is thrown into the prison because he's a Daylighter who shouldn't exist. A mysterious boy named Sebastian isn't what he seems. And, oh, Valentine figures out how to raise an army of demons who somehow invade the city!
If you thought the battle of Shadowhunters against demons on Valentine's ship was big, the battle in this book is epic in proportion. And the only way Idris and the Shadowhunters are able to survive is to ask Downworlders for help. With a rune Clary comes up with, she is able to make it possible for everyone to have the best possible chance of survival. Meanwhile, angsty!Jace sets out to stop Valentine and Sebastian... who he finds out is his brother... and then finds out isn't (is Clary's brother, though)... and then finds out he's not Clary's brother... and then he dies... and then comes back to life.
It's all complicated and exciting and, again, so many layers. But it's a great way to end the Mortal Instruments series. We finally get to see all three mortal instruments (the first in the first book, the second in the second book, and the third in the third book) and the bad guys are finally sufficiently vanquished. She could have easily have stopped there and it would have been a fabulous victory. Clary & Jace can have a relationship, Simon is safe as a Daylighter, Alec is out to his parents, and Luke & Clary's Mom are well & in love and going to be married. It's a fantastic ending!
Except that it's not an ending. There are MORE books to be had! City of Bones, City of Ashes, and City of Glass are all amazing books. And even though it would have been a great ending, I'm really happy there's still more out there to enjoy.
